It operates on a 120V wired power source with a 9-volt alkaline battery backup included for coverage during power failures. When smoke or fire is detected, the smoke alarm emits an 85-decibel alarm sound and a red LED light indicates that the detector is sensing smoke or fire.

There is a test-hush button on the smoke detector that allows users to easily test the battery operations and silence false alarms that may arise from activities such as cooking or shower steam. Additionally, the smoke detector will chirp to alert you when it's time to replace the battery.
