The Kidde i4618 is an ionization smoke alarm that is powered by both AC and DC sources. It operates on a 120V power supply and has a 9V battery backup option. This alarm utilizes ionization sensing technology, which has the ability to detect invisible fire particles typically produced by flaming fires at an earlier stage compared to photoelectric alarms. Conversely, photoelectric sensing alarms are better at detecting visible particles from smoldering fires sooner than ionization sensors.

The front-loading battery door of the Kidde i4618 allows for easy and convenient battery replacement without having to remove the alarm from its mounting bracket. This feature simplifies maintenance tasks for users. Additionally, the smoke alarm is available in a 6-piece cut case with a display tray, as well as a 6-piece bulk pack designed for contractors and property owners. It is a UL Listed product with a 5-year limited warranty.

Kidde recommends the installation of both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms in order to maximize the detection of different types of fires that may occur in a home.
